Dreamgirls is the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, and their rocky road to superstardom. The original Broadway production of Dreamgirls opened December 20, 1981 at the Imperial Theatre and won six 1982 Tony Awards. Dreamgirls closed on Broadway August 11, 1985, after 1,522 performances. Dreamgirls features music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen. The original Broadway production was directed by Michael Bennett and choreographed by Bennett and Michael Peters. Create copy for Affiliate Relations for one sheets, letters/correspondence and prize fulfillment for various events & contests.
Primary contact and manager for promotions; tasks include tracking winners, writing promos and distributing prize fulfillment letters and packages, as well as creating client / sponsor follow-up letters and filling marketing requests.
Create “term sheets” for TJMS/Reach projects/promotions and events outlining agreed upon terms for prospective partnerships.
Manage creative copy, fulfillment, contesting, new initiatives and logistics.
Write and create marketing copy for BlackAmericaWeb.com pages referring to marketing initiatives, promotions and events.
Create programming concepts and outline projects and content through presentations and overviews.
Write on-air promos for Tom Joyner for marketing promotions (:15’s and: 30’s, as well as guideline points), as well as custom promos and scripts for local affiliates for TJMS promotions.
Write and distribute press releases for Tom Joyner Morning Show local efforts.
Coordinate events with affiliates (Affiliate Tour) keeping those involved informed with spreadsheets, calendars, contact numbers, etc.
Consistently present on management calls to manage marketing efforts and projects (Various programming promotions, Fantastic Voyage, Tom Joyner Family Reunion, other destination events and community initiatives such as Take a Loved One tot he Doctor Day, Back to School and Mistletoe Jam holiday event).

Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Highly organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects ensuring accuracy.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact proactively with staff and managers at all levels.
Able to meet deadlines while working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or other related field.
Two plus years background in media marketing.
Full understanding and command of budget management.

Manager, College Relations - Tom Joyner Foundation

Overview:

The College Relations Manager will report to the Director of College Relations and share the responsibility of program development, fund development and community relations for the Foundation.

Candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising initiatives, innovative programs and marketing strategies for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) supported by the Tom Joyner Foundation.

The College Relations Manager will take an active role in developing and implementing processes to best promote, enhance, manage and sustain the Tom Joyner Foundation. The Manager will have a proven record of accomplishment executing special events that will generate major gifts for the Foundation.

Candidate must have a willingness to learn new and creative fundraising and marketing methods, flexibility and the ability to think “outside of the box” will be essential for success in this position. The ability to manage in a confidential environment while enhancing the Foundation is mandatory.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage continuous relationships with all Historically Black Colleges and Universities supported by the Tom Joyner Foundation.
Execute the School of the Month (SOTM) program, the Foundation signature program, to include but not limited to assisting the schools with formulating and implementing its fundraising partnership plan, structuring and implementing a marketing program to successfully execute the SOTM program, identify creative “out of the box” methods to raise funds for SOTM partner, and executing programs that may coincide with SOTM partnership
Develop and implement special programs or fundraising ventures with designated HBCUs, per the request of the College Relations Director, President/CEO and/or the Board of Directors.
Coordinate and execute special events for SOTM partners, corporate partners and donors that can generate major gifts for the Foundation.
Coordinate a reporting process of scholarship recipients for current Schools of the Month partnerships.
Develop a process for donation distribution and tracking.
Work with the College Relations Director to develop corporate and community partnerships, which may include but not limited to proposal development and grant writing.
Compile lists and reports for corporate sponsors.
Work closely College Relations team (CR Director and CR Coordinator) to support the coordination of special events for the HBCUs and the Foundation.
Work with College Relations Coordinator to execute the HBCU College Tour program for current SOTM partners.
Coordinator with the Director to disseminate news links services for information related to HBCUs.

Requirements & Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Non-profit Management, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
Have at least 3-5 years experience in fund raising and/or marketing/communication in the non-profit industry.

Excellent communication (written and oral), project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills including the ability to interface with all levels of employees, HBCU contacts at all levels, corporate sponsors, and potential supporters.
Proven track record with maintaining and enhancing business relationships.
Complete computer knowledge and ability to efficiently use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, Excel, Power Point, Quick Books and other tools to make the Tom Joyner Foundation an efficient and professional operation.

You know what...I'm sure the novelty probably wears off with all "sexy" jobs...but there has to be something appealing about spending the better part of your days (and nights) at sea, meeting new people every week and taking in an ocean view on a daily basis that can't be all bad.

And it HAS to be better than that cubicle you have with no hope of advancement, no travel and no sexy folk around as eye candy.

Although my lifestyle at this point doesn't lend itself to something like this, I clearly can see why it would to someone else.

I've a few friends who've worked aboard cruise ships and they've ALL come back to me singing the Love Boat theme...meaning, it's all true.

Hell, what do you have to lose? Go from unemployed and never traveling to employed and spending most of your time on a cruise ship. Can't be ALL bad...can it?

Of course, with all these websites there is some level of redundancy, but pay close attention to each site and the DATES of their postings. Often times, some sites may get their postings from other locations and there may be a 1-2 week lapse time.

For example, monster.com may post some Warner Bros. entertainment jobs, but the posting may not hit monster until well after they've been posted on WB-related boards.

As a general rule, always seek to go to the SOURCE first. If you wish to work for Sony Pictures, always seek out Sony Pictures and their website FIRST. It should go without saying that many of these jobs are filled almost instantaneously, so time is truly of the essence. Seek to be first, and to be best. Your attention to detail in searching for right job only helps you land the right job. If you (and your competition) are looking at many of the same job boards, then it behooves you to have the right information, FIRST.

Tips on Writing an 'Entertainment' Resume

Not all resumes are created equal, nor should they be. It's not unusual for people (myself included) to have 3 and 4 different resumes, especially if your level of expertise and array of experience transcend a single field or type of employment.

You may have had retail jobs as well as government jobs in your past, but not all needs to be on your single page resume. More times than not, employers are looking for "applicable" experience.

Save the 'extras' for line items in your hobbies, associations or affiliations. Employers can 'ask' more if they want to know more. The goal is to streamline the information and present it in an efficient, effective and informative manner. Success means getting the interview. The interview is the goal of the resume. A resume can only get you an interview and nothing more. Keep this specific goal in mind. It will never get you a job. So use the resume to help your cause and do nothing to harm it.

In the interview you can fill in the nooks and crannies with your 'information' about how you used to stack bowling pins before you began your entertainment career. But give yourself the best chance to get there first.

First things first. Take a sojourn at Backstage - The Actor's Resource. Afterwards, come back and hang out here as you slowly realize you're better off working behind the scenes in the interim. (You know, while you struggle to get that "valuable" non-speaking, background part in which you aren't even recognizable.)
